Jak powszechnie wiadomo, pisanie o muzyce jest jak lepienie garnków o pierwszej płycie CKOD, jak to ujął Frank Zappa. Ale niektórym się udaje.

Są biografie i autobiografie artystów ("Miles: The Autobiography"), historie gatunków ("Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk"), książki głównie obrazkowe ("Factory Records: The Complete Graphic Album"), podręcznik o tym jak osiągnąć sukces w branży muzycznej ("The Manual: How to Have a Number One the Easy Way"), i rzeczy bardziej naukowe ('Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain").

Autor książek "Rip It Up and Start Again: Postpunk 1978-1984" i "Generation Ecstasy: Into the World of Techno and Rave Culture", dziennikarz Simon Reynolds napisał nową ciekawą książkę. Przygląda się w niej modzie na retro, jej przyczynom i skutkom, w muzyce i w szerszej perspektywnie kultury.


W tym wywiadzie mówi m.in. o słabnącej roli krytyków muzycznych...


"(..) The main change I’ve noticed, partly related to the erosion of the gatekeeper function of music critics, is that the messianic or prophetic mode of rock-writing has faded away. Because the critic is rarely introducing readers to something for the first time, the whole “I have heard the future” approach is no longer called for. But also the idea of “the future” of music has eroded for all the reasons I explore in Retromania. We don’t really think so much anymore of a style of music being more advanced than other music forms, or a particular genre or artist being a herald of how music will be. "

5-If you feel like shit all the time, drink less beer at the gig. You will play better & feel better. What are you… a child? Some have the endurance for self abuse. Most don’t.

6-Remember the soundman’s name. He will do a better job.

7- Eat oranges. Cures constipation & prevents colds.

8-Masturbate. Duh… Where & when? Be creative. You’re an artist right?

9-If YOU can’t carry your suitcase 3 blocks, it’s too goddamn big.

10-Respect public space in the van. Don’t clutter, you Fuck.

11-If you borrow something, return it. Not Fucked Up.

12-Do not let the promoter dick you or talk you out of the guarantee. If there were not enuf people there, it’s their fault.

21- Don’t evaluate your whole life while you’re sitting in a janitor closet waiting to go on. You think you’re above having shitty days at work? Shut up & do your goddamn job.
